What is Computer and Internet Monitoring Software?

Computer and internet Monitoring software is software installed on a computer or network that automatically tracks and records computer and internet activity. 

This type of software usually runs discreetly in the background on a computer (i.e.. without the user knowing). Log Files or records created of computer use may then be accessed either on the computer, or for some advanced software titles, you may elect to receive the logs via email.

Common tasks computer and internet monitoring software performs include:

• Capture Screenshots. This feature captures an image of the screen at regular intervals. The screenshot is an image of the entire computer screen as visible to the user.
  
  

• Logs Keystrokes. Captures and records all keys typed on the keyboard, including all usernames, passwords, etc.
  
  

• Record all URL's. Logs the details (i.e. internet address) of every web site and web page visited whilst on the internet.
  
  

• Record Internet Chat Conversations. Captures and records both sides of an online chat conversation. Most software titles are able to record from all major chat programs including AOL, MSN Messenger, ICQ, etc.
